Canon PowerShot
A510
Review of the Canon PowerShot A510
The Canon
PowerShot A510 is an ergonomically designed point and shoot camera designed
for beginners, but offering a large number of options, including some
manual features. The pixel count, 3.2 megapixels, is quite adequate for
a point and shoot. The optical zoom, 4x, is higher than in a lot of point
and shoot cameras which only offer 3x. The LCD screen is 1.8 inches in
diameter, and is therefore quite generously sized. For a similar spec'd
camera but with more megapixels, see the Canon
PowerShot A520.
There are
a huge number of shooting modes on this camera - Auto, Program AE, Shutter
priority AE, Aperture priority AE, Manual, Portrait, Landscape, Night
Scene, Fast Shutter, Slow Shutter, Stitch Assist, Movie, Special scene
modes (Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Underwater, Indoor, Kids & Pets,
Night Snapshot).
The colour
effects available are Vivid, Neutral, Low Sharpening, Sepia and Black
& White. Continuous
shooting records at approximately 2.3 frames per second.
There is
an optional waterproof case available for the Canon PowerShot A510. There
are also wide and tele converter lenses available for this camera.
The Canon
PowerShot A510 allows you to take movies, with sound, up to 3 minutes
in duration and 30 second VGA clips.
The camera
can be connected to any Canon Direct Print or PictBridge compatible printer.

I take it hiking all cross country, it bangs about in my haversack & equally
fits into the palm of my hand ready for a quick shot of a deer or fox.
In Autumn I use the special scene mode on foliage & the results are amazing.
The leaves mingle together in a slightly blurry mass & with a bit of underexposure
you can saturate the colours. Have stopped using my other higher quality
camera, this is a beautiful snap & shoot model with a multitude of extra
features that allows you to be creative all for a very reasonable price.
Great for walking around town taking photos of unsuspecting subjects,
dogs, kids, old folks & down & outs. Buy good quality rechargeable batteries
& a decent memory chip & you are sorted. Highly recommended.

Dear reader, Very difficult to write my review because ........ A Japanese
friend of mine gave mentioned camera to me as a present. The manual is in
Japanese language. I even can not format the memory card because all the
text on the camera itself is also Japanese. I am Dutch. What can I do? Can
I find an English manual on internet? Regards, Rob van den Oever,robvdo1@csloxinfo.com
