Canon PowerShot
A95
Review
of the Canon PowerShot A95
The
Canon PowerShot A95 is suitable for beginners as well as more advanced
users. The camera has 14
different shooting modes ranging from fully Manual to fully Automatic.
There are 8 special scene modes - Foliage,
Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Underwater, Indoor, Kids & Pets and Night Snapshot,
and 4 photo effect modes - Vivid,
Neutral, Low Sharpening, Sepia, Black & White.
The PowerShot A95 also has a Movie mode, letting you record VGA video
clips with playback either in-camera or by connecting direct to your TV.
The
PowerShot A95 has a high-resolution 5.0 Megapixel sensor which enables
printing up to A3 size. The 3x optical zoom lens is standard for a camera
in this class. Macro mode lets you take pictures from as close as 5cm.
9-point
AiAF (Artificial intelligence Auto Focus) is used to focus the lens in
automatic mode. FlexiZone AF/AE lets you select the focus and exposure
point. The
large 1.8" vari-angle LCD twists in different directions so you can shoot
from different angles.
Optional
accessories include tele converter, wide converter and close-up lenses,
a waterproof case for use in depths of up to 40m and rechargeable batteries.
See spec below for more details and Accessories on the right for where
to buy.
The
camera can be connected to any Canon Direct Print or PictBridge compatible
photo printer. When connected to a Canon Compact Photo Printer, the camera
can print ID photos. The PowerShot A95 comes with a software suite (see
below for details), allowing you to download, edit and organise your photos,
stitch images together to create panoramas and build slide shows with
sound and commentary.

FOOL PROOF. WHICH IS GREAT FOR ME BECAUSE I WANT TO POINT AND GET A GOOD
CLEAR PICTURE. UPGRADED MY CARD TO A 512MB WHICH I NEVER FILL ON A HOLIDAY.
I HATE HANDING IT TO OTHERS TO TAKE PICTURES DUE TO THE SWIVEL SCREEN
THAT SOME DRUNKEN MATE WILL EVENTUALLTY PULL IT OFF AT A PARTY. THAT SAID
I THINK IT IS WELL MADE AND FAIRLY TOUGH. NEXT CAMERA WILL BE A CANON
BUT I WILL GO FOR THE SMALLEST I CAN, WHICH WILL PROBABLY PRODUCE BETTER
PICTURE AS THE TECHNOLOGY PROGRESSES.

The Powershot A95 is a truly outstanding camera. For £200 or less, you
get a 5 megapixel resolution, the renowned Canon auto-exposure and 9-point
auto-focus, plus the ability to shoot VGA quality video with sound. It's
a beautifully constructed camera from a solid brandname in photography,
and costs not much more than cheaper imitations from companies with little
experience at making cameras. One of the best features of the A95 is the
large high-res LCD display that can be flipped out to use like a viewfinder.
If it could be improved in any way, I would ask for a larger memory card
and a bigger optical zoom range, although the memory card can easily be
replaced. I have read that the PowerShot A-series cameras are supposed
to have purple fringing, but I cannot see any evidence of that with this
camera.
