Fuji FinePix A120

Fuji FinePix A120Review of the Fuji FinePix A120

This is Fuji's current entry level camera and comes in at a very competitive price. 3.1 million effective pixels is very respectable for what is a straightforward, no-fuss camera. It lacks an optical zoom (i.e. the ability to zoom in on your subject), so the focal length of the lens is fixed. Fuji have tried to compensate for this by offering a 3.1x digital zoom, which is a higher digital zoom than that offered on the A330 or A340. This is the same as cropping the picture, i.e. it enlarges the central part and cuts away the outer edge. Movies are recorded at 10 frames per second, which is OK but will not be totally smooth. This is a point and shoot camera suitable for the beginner and snap-happy user. At only 120g it's nice and light to carry around and is very compact in size.

Features of the Fuji FinePix A120 include:

  • 3.1 million effective pixels
  • Video Out socket for non-computer users to review shots on their TV
  • PictBridge for printing without a PC
  • Fast operation and simple to use, just point and shoot for lifelike images
  • Movie recording capabilities up to 10 frames per second (fps). Record up to 60 seconds (320x240 pixels) and up to 4 minutes (160x120 pixels) with a 16MB xD-Picture Card (included)
  • xD-Picture Card providing large storage capacity and low power consumption

I bought the camera and printer combo at Target for 64.99 clearance so I didn't expect much out of it but it turned out to be a nice little camera for the price. The pictures (especially the outdoor ones) are clear and bright. The only downfall is that the batteries die FAST! I have even tried the batteries especially for digital cameras but they die about 25 pictures later. Otherwise it's a great camera for the price.

I purchased the camera solely for taking pictures of items I post on my online store. It works great for that. I bought it as a bundle (camera, lots of software, photo paper, and color printer) all for under $150. I am very happy with the small investment. It serves its purpose well and it is very user friendly. The additional items were an added bonus. Highly recommended for beginners and those who are not trying to take "world class" photos. It has saved me lots of money and the investment has more than paid for itself. I would recommend a better camera for zooming and more professional shots.

I needed a digital camera to take some snaps of things I wanted to sell. I know how poor the $30 cameras are, so I took a step up to a $130 camera (not the cheapest but close) for my purposes it will do just fine and I'll never have to pay for film processing again. A couple negatives: Frankly, the zoom is uterly useless. It does not zoom enough to be useful and NO ZOOM AVAILABLE AT FULL 3.1MPX RESOLUTION!! So if you want a useful zoom pick another camera. I don't know how well most digital cameras will do night shots, but this one does them as well as an slr with no special film, (i.e. not well) the sales rep. said something about "night mode" but I've yet to discover this feature. The menus are easy to understand and you won't really need the owner's manual unless you're dense like me. If you have kids you won't need the manual at all. You can learn how to use it in the store even before the sales rep gets impatient. All in all, this is a fine little camera for snap shots. It will pay for itself on the first long weekend holiday: not bad for the price. P.S. the extended warranty would have cost me $54, I decided not to take it because a better camera than this will probably be available for less than that before the initial 1 year waranty is up. Summary: No useful zoom; Super easy to use; Supposed to have self timer But I haven't tried it; Lens cover/on switch included; Tripod attachment present; ac adaptor extra; Finepix software is a pain in the neck and sometimes needs 2 installs (seen this on more than one fuji camera) be careful what you tell the software to do as it thinks its the only photo software in existance as many do; 60 sec movie supposed to be available (never tried) but no sound; Web cam only works with WinXP; This camera doesn't work with Win95; and, finally, the flash is bright enough to make the local punk-heads try to take it away from you 20 min. after you bought it. (I guess drugs do that to you) Happy snapping! R.

This camera is user friendly and reall simple to use. I love the digital zoom with no moving parts to worry about and the pictures are awesome for the overall price of the camera.

WhenI bought my camera (Fuji Pix A120), there wasn't any owner manual in the box and the salesman told me that it is on the CD supplied. That is a false statement (I do not wish to use the term "lie"). There is no manual in the CD either. Several attempts to dowload the manual from several fuji websites failed. What type of support can be expected from people who do not supply manual, make false statements and whose websites do not work properly? You decide, whether its this level of service you expect!!! I am returning my camera to the seller!!! If I cannot make full use of it, then why have it anyway? My e-mail addess is msramjauny@ifrance.com
