As a devout Minolta user (600si,700si,800si,Dynax 9) i'm hoping to not show any bias here. I made the jump to Digital a few months ago and purchased the above and i must say i'm very impressed considering the price. The build quality is superb, the body has a reassuring heft to it without being too heavy, and the balance is nice when using a 'standard' lens (28-105 in my case), and it doesnt feel too bad with a 200mm APO either. Although, i do also have the grip as well as holding the body prior to this purchase felt slightly uncomfortable with any lens. One thing i'm very happy about is that Minolta have shied away from using multi-menus for a lot of things, instead they've put a lot of the use-a-lot settings on buttons and dials on the body, nice and easy, and more importantly; Quick! The screen on the rear is a godsend, very easy to navigate through the menus, you can't use it as a viewfinder though, but as this is a SLR why would you? Also, when a lot of makers were putting 1.8" screens on their SLR's Minolta have used a 2.5". Doesn't sound like much but it makes a world of difference. The only doubts i have is in the anti-shake, as you can't tell how well its doing its job as its not built into the lens, rather the body. This is just a tiny concern as i've yet to have any bad results, just it would be nice to see it working when viewing a scene. You don't have to use the 'D' series lens on the camera, i'm using the lenses i purchased for my previous 35mm cameras. All in all, very nice, especially for the price.

super camera with excellent credentials. very functional and easy to operate straight out of the box. feels very sturdy and well constructed. the large lcd is a gem with all information on it just before you shoot. after raising camera to eye lcd goes black and when you take a look at it after a shot it displays your photo for 2 seconds and then back to information again. superb. no top lcd and to be honest no-one will miss it, the back of the camera is so functional and easy to use it's thumbs and dials and straight back to the eye. optional hand grip makes the camera so much more solid and professional. a true 10/10 rating
