I purchased this camera-phone in a Christmas sale for £20 which makes
it a real bargain as long as you don't expect too much from its basic
CMOS sensor. The camera takes fairly reasonable pics at standard VGA
(640 x 480) provided it's not used in either bright sunlight (where
it tends to over-expose the image) or in very low lighting conditions
as there is no flash. It's surprisingly good when used under normal
indoor lighting conditions. The pics can be downloaded easliy to a PC
via USB but you have to buy the special cable and Motorola Tools software
separately. This is not easy to get hold of and I ended up buying off
eBay. With a little tidying-up using a very basic photo-editing package
the pics generally come out okay but don't try and print them out as
the resolution is too low. They are strictly for viewing on a monitor!
Battery life is very good but it's a real struggle to get the rear cover
off the phone without running the risk of damaging the casing. So using
a spare battery is not easy and not worth the hassle as any damage caused
to the casing will probably invalidate the guarantee. You just have
to be careful about not letting the battery run down too low and then
finding that you can't use the phone. The reception and transmission
are good and so far I have not experienced any problems when making
or receiving calls. The phone is compact and light but the small keypad
is not suited to people with porky fingers! The screen is okay, if a
little small, but the resoultion is good and you can see things quite
clearly. The screen is also used as an image viewer when the camera
is activated and works well in that respect unless you are operating
in bright sunlight. This tends to obscure the image but that is a problem
common to most LCD screens so it's not a criticism specific to this
phone only. All in all a good basic camera phone and I am pleased with
it. The normal price is £40 and even that is not a bad deal. Alan Rating:
