Review of the Nikon Coolpix S1

The Nikon Coolpix S1 is a very slim and compact camera in an all-metal body, weighing just 118g without the battery. It has a resolution of 5.1 megapixels and a non-protruding 3x optical zoom lens. The digital zoom ratio is 4x. The LCD screen is a good size at 2.5" in diameter. The Coolpix S1 is available in 3 colours - Pure Silver, Ivory White and Ebony Black.

Features include the D-Lighting option which can be used to rescue underexposed images. The Face-Priority AF mode ensures quality portraits when photographing human subjects and the in-camera red-eye fix will sort out any problems. Movies are recorded at 15 frames per second.

The Coolpix S1 has the same specification as the Nikon Coolpix S2, except for the fact that the S1 is smaller and lighter and the S1 also has an optional water-proof case for taking pictures under water. The S2, by comparison, is splash-proof but does not feature a water-proof case in its list of optional extras.
