Olympus FE-150
Review
of the Olympus FE-150
Of all the
cameras in the Olympus FE range, the Olympus FE-150 has the widest angle
lens ( a 35mm equivalent of 32-96mm.) Combined with 5 megapixels and 3x
optical zoom, it suggests a good quality point and shoot. The LCD screen
is huge, measuring 2.5". There are only 5 scene modes which is not
many compared to the 20 available on the Olympus
FE-140 and the internal memory is very low at only 9MB so you'll need
to make use of the xD-Picture Card slot. The Olympus FE-150 is a smart
looking compact in a metal body.

In the box: Camera. Li-Ion battery (partially charged). Mains lead (for
charger) and Charger. Euro mains lead for charger. Installation cd and
manual on cd. Instruction manual on paper. TV AV cable. Wrist strap.
Pros: 5 Mpix Metal body Light Slimline Large screen
Respectable image quality. Excellent Macro mode. 2 year manufacturer guarantee
Good price (£150)
Cons: Everytime you connect it to the PC you have to chooose the mode
(pc, pictbridge etc.) you want from the options on the camera screen which
is normally laid face down on the desk. No docking cradle available (not
an issue until I found out about the above). Battery charges out of camera
unless you buy optional extra lead (£15 off Ebay). This means repeated
opening and closing of the compartment door. Some features (such as panoramic
mode) not available unless you buy an Olympus XD card. n.b. Fuji cards
don't unlock the options. It must be Olympus branded. No "protect all
pictures" function, only individually. Shutter button not as responsive
as I had hoped - half click is very slight, and you can barely feel the
button move. What feels like a half-click is a full one. When removing
the XD card (for using in a PC card reader for example) the filename count
resets meaning you will end up with duplicate filenames on the PC. This
is a real pain! Major lack of manual controls - yeah it's not a manual
camera but the ability to specify ISO etc as seen on similar cameras would
be nice. Overall whilst the image is good, the other factors pull this
down to an "average" rating of 2 stars. Disappointed.
