Olympus MJU 700

Review of the Olympus MJU 700

The Olympus MJU 700 is a slightly upgraded version of the MJU 600 and is available for approximately the same price range, depending on where you go. It is available in Moonlight Silver, Midnight Black, Twilight Blue and Sunset Orange, so Olympus have clearly had a ball playing around with colour schemes. Like all cameras in the MJU range, this one is weatherproof, which Olympus describe as being impervious to spray from all directions. In the MJU 700 the resolution has been increased from 6 to 7.1 megapixels, but the 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom remain the same as the MJU 600. The LCD screen measures 2.5" and has 115,000 pixels. Olympus have increased the LCD pixel count in some of their later models, such as the MJU 750 and MJU 1000. The LCD does, nevertheless, use Olympus' BrightCapture Technology to give a brighter image in low light. Automatic sensitivity settings range from ISO 64 to ISO 400, with ISO 2500 being available in some of the dim lighting modes to be found in the 23 scene modes. ISO settings can be selected manually from ISO 64 to ISO 1600. Along with the MJU 600, this camera represents good value for money.
