Review
of the Samsung Digimax V4000
The Samsung Digimax V4000 is stylish, compact and lightweight. It combines 4 megapixels with a 3x Schneider Kreuznach optical zoom lens and 4x digital zoom which makes this a good point and shoot digital camera, suitable for beginners. It only comes with 32Mb Internal memory, so consider buying a 128Mb or 256Mb card. It does not come with a charger and battery or a case. At 1.5" the LCD screen is not the largest on the market, however it is adequate. In its favour is the fact that its brightness can be adjusted to aid viewing in different lighting conditions. You can trim and resize images on the LCD without the need to connect to a PC. Using the "Quick Play" feature you can review single images, thumbnails, slide shows and movie clips at the touch of a button - even when the power is off.
Using the shooting mode dial you can choose from multiple shooting modes including easy, program, portrait, night scene, movie clip, voice recording and A/S/M (aperture, shutter, and manual). An easy to use 4-way key and OK button allows you to navigate the options menu and provides quick and easy access to a variety of features including flash, self-timer and metering. The macro function lets you take pictures from as close as 5cm.
The Samsung Digimax V4000 records movies with sound. You can add 10 seconds of audio to still images and record up to 2 hours of audio alone, depending on the size of the memory card.
Using the "My Set" function you can personalize your camera by choosing up to 9 different camera settings such as image size, quality and ISO and saving them in a customized profile. Customize the start up image on the LCD screen to show your favourite photo.
The V4000 supports 9 different power sources.
The V4000 features single, continuous and auto bracketing shooting modes and supports multiple file formats, including TIFF, JPEG and DPOF for still images, as well as AVI (MJPEG) for movie clips and WAV for audio files. The V4000 comes with bundled software for viewing, editing and sharing images.
