Sharp GX30i

Overview of the Sharp GX30i

The Sharp GX30i is an enhanced version of the GX30, Europe's first megapixel camera phone. The integrated digital camera has a 1 megapixel CCD with a 7 stage digital zoom and 5 picture sizes ranging from 120 x 160 up to 858 x 1144 pixels. Like previous camera phones, this is a fixed-focus camera with no optical zoom. A built-in flash light is included for night-time shots.

The GX30i also comes with an integrated camcorder capable of recording video clips with sound up to a limit of 400 kB file size.

To complement the high-resolution camera, the GX30 has an ultra-high resolution QVGA screen with 240 x 320 pixels, making it the highest resolution screen available on any current mobile phone (the same as the Sony Ericsson S700i and the Motorola E1000). The active matrix TFT screen can display 262,000 colours and measures 2.2 inches. This is truly a screen to do justice to the quality of the camera! The phone also has a 65,536 colour external LCD that displays information such as the time and date, network strength and the caller id. It is possible to assign a photo to an entry in the phonebook, so that a picture of the caller appears when they phone you.

Other features of the GX30i include an MP3 player, Java games and polyphonic ringtones.

The GX30i is nearly the same as the GX30 except that it has enhanced Bluetooth support for wireless connectivity. The GX30 suffered from only being able to connect wirelessly to a Bluetooth headset or car-kit. The GX30i now has full Bluetooth support for transferring data to a computer or another phone. This can be used to transfer images or video clips, as well as MP3 audio tracks, phonebook entries and other kinds of data.

The GX30i also supports USB and infra-red connectivity. The SD memory card can be expanded to 512 Mbytes allowing plenty of space for storage of images, video and audio.
