Review of the Sony DSC-N1 Cyber-shot

The Sony DSC-N1 Cyber-shot is a slim but highly specified digital point and shoot camera in an aluminium body. It has 8 megapixels which is very high. The 3x optical zoom lens is a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens and the camera has 6x digital zoom.

The camera has a huge 3.0" TFT LCD monitor viewable in sunlight with 100% field of view. The LCD is used to frame shots as this camera does not have an optical viewfinder. The LCD uses a touch screen operation and works in 15 languages - English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Polish, Hungarian and Czech.

You can choose from a number of pre-set scenes to help you get the right setting for different conditions - Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Soft Snap, Landscape, Snow, Beach, Fireworks and Candle. If the exposure setting on the camera is too low then the Exposure Warning Indicator will blink before you take the shot. Movies are recorded in MPEG VX Fine with audio. It also comes with a built-in Pocket Album and the ability to show a slideshow with music.

The camera comes with 26MB of internal memory. This can be increased using a Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick Duo Pro. The recording formats of the camera are JPEG and MPEG1. The camera uses a Lithium Ion NP-BG1 battery which is supplied with the package along with a battery charger. Other included accessories are a multi-use cable, wrist strap, stylus and CD-ROM. The supplied software is Picture Package, PIXELA ImageMixer and USB Driver. The camera is PictBridge compatible meaning that you can print to a PictBridge printer without the need for a PC.
