Got the camera as a gift last December and I must say, I really loved
it. After all, Its a SONY, isn't it? At least I thought so until I took
it on vacation early this month. Somewhere during the week, the camera
quit working and a large black football-shaped object with white streaks
showed up in the viewfinder. I sent it back to the Sony-authorized repair
facility for repair, after all, it was only 6 months old v/s a 1 year
guarantee. I received a letter from the repair depot voiding my warranty
as they claim the camera was dropped, puncturing the LCD display which
leaked. I know I watched that camera like a hawk and did not drop it,
but what can I do as a consumer? Its my word against theirs. They quoted
me a price of $171 to replace the display and electronics or $12 to get
the camera back. I can buy a new one for under $250 so it really doesn't
pay to have it fixed. How much you want to bet this camera winds up sold
as a 'refurb'?. I am really disappointed with SONY service and needless
to say will be purchasing another camera. I have read several reviews
of this camera and many complaints center around the lens which stops
working after a short time.
