Sony DSC-W30
Cyber-shot
Review
of the Sony DSC-W30 Cyber-shot
The Sony
DSC-W30 is a sleek and compact digital camera measuring 89.8 x 59.0 x
22.9mm with an aluminium face. It has 6 megapixels which is excellent.
The 3x Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optical zoom lens is operated by a push-button
functionality. The camera also has 6x digital zoom. The TFT LCD monitor
is 2.0" in diameter and is therefore slightly smaller than the 2.5" screen
offered on the DSC-W50 and DSC-W70 models. However, it still offers 100%
field of view.
The camera
has an "anti-blur" ISO1000 high sensitivity setting. The NR Slow Shutter
function will reduce noise from the image when taking pictures with a
very low shutter speed and the Hand Shake Alert feature will help prevent
camera shake. The camera has an optical viewfinder which can be used instead
of the LCD screen in conditions when the LCD screen may be difficult to
see. Additionally, using the optical viewfinder instead of the LCD screen
will reduce power consumption. The histogram indicator and exposure warning
indicator ensure that the image has the right exposure levels before you
take the shot. Pre-set scenes provided with this camera are Twilight,
Twilight Portrait, Soft Snap, Landscape, Beach, Snow and High Sensitivity.
16:9 Mode is available for wide screen TV.
The camera
is supplied with 32MB of internal memory which you can increase by using
a Memory Stick DUO or Memory Stick PRO DUO. The recording formats are
JPEG and MPEG1. The camera will shoot in Multi Burst mode when means that
it will automatically take 16 shots and save them in one JPEG file. Images
taken in Multi Burst mode can be viewed on the camera in a 0.8 second
interval sequence or as a 16-image montage on a PC.
The camera
uses a USB 2.0 connection for high speed transfer. It is also PictBridge
compatible meaning that it will print directly to a PictBridge compatible
printer without the need for a PC. The camera comes with Cyber-shot Viewer
software and a USB Driver. Other included accessories are a rechargeable
battery(NP-BG1), battery charger (BC-CSG), power code, multi cable and
a wrist strap. The menu operates in 15 languages - English, French, German,
Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish,
Finnish, Polish, Hungarian and Czech.
This is
a well specified camera at a reasonable price.
