Sony
Ericsson S700i
Overview
of the Sony Ericsson S700i
The Sony Ericsson S700i is a state-of-the-art camera phone
with a 1.3
megapixel digital camera (1280 x 960 pixels).
The camera comes with a built in flashlight, 8x digital zoom, and picture
effects. It has to be said that the relatively large size and weight (137g)
of the phone helps when it comes to taking pictures - heavier cameras
are easier to hold steady and you can easily use two hands to hold the
S700i. The camera on the S700i is one of the best in the current generation
of camera phones. Like previous camera phones, this
is a fixed-focus camera with no optical zoom.
The device
can also operate as a video recorder, although the maximum video resolution
is just 176 x 144 pixels. A sound recorder is also included.
A megapixel
camera needs a high quality screen to do it justice and the S700i does
not disappoint. The screen is of exceptionally high quality, with 262k
colours and a huge 240 x 320 pixel resolution, making it the largest screen
of any currently available mobile (the same as the Sharp
GX30i). Colours are rendered vividly. The size of the screen also
makes everyday tasks such as writing messages easy. It's also brilliant
for playing 3D Java games.
The physical
design of the S700i is unusual in that it has a rotating opening mechanism,
with the keypad hidden away when not in use. Push
the phone gently and it swivels open to reveal the keypad inside. In addition
to being a "cool" feature, this design enables
a large screen to fit within a compact phone design, as well as providing
protection for the keypad when closed. The benefits are similar to the
"slide-up" design featured in the Samsung D500. When
closed, the phone can be used for making and receiving calls, and for
accessing the phone menu. The 4-way navigation button is easy to use and
seems to be more robust than the joysticks on earlier Sony Ericsson phone.
When opened, the full keypad becomes accessible for texting, dialling
and using email or MMS. The keypad can also be opened at an angle of 90
degrees for use when playing games.
Other useful
features of the S700i include an integrated stereo FM radio and MP3 player.
You can record MP3 ringtones, or compose your own 40-voice polyphonic
ringtones using the MusicDJ composer included with the phone.
The S700i
has excellent connectivity, with full Bluetooth support for wireless
connection to headsets, car kits and other devices, as well as infrared
and cable connections. This makes the transfer of photos and video to
a PC or another phone straightforward.
The phone
is supplied with a 32 Mbyte Memory Stick Duo, which is probably inadequate
for most users, but you can extend the storage capacity by buying additional
memory sticks, currently up to 128 Mbytes. Sony
Ericsson's stated battery standby of 12 days is probably optimistic, but
for most users, battery life should certainly be a few days, which is
reasonable for a phone with this amount of power.

I've been searching for a camera phone for quite a long while. I wanted
one which has a superb resolution, big screen and something that you can
be proud of when you are using it (especially when you're showing the
pics taken). From my old Nokia phone I found this (SE 700i. This is it,
really superb in taking pictures. I am a school professor at STI College
Tanauan Phils. and was able to us it in ID picture taking and even printed
superb pictures with my 3-in-1 Epson printer. Even my colleagues could
not find the difference between a digital camera from this unit. I tell
you, dear reader, this phone has a class of its own, very dependable,
handy and useful. The only thing I don't like here is that you could not
play its video full screen. But just the same, its video playback is superb
it seems that you're watching a small TV.-Rodheljon2@yahoomail.com

This phone is excellent. I have owned a few camera phones and this is
by far the best for taking pictures. The quality of the display is outstanding.
I like the unusual design, although the keypad isn't as easy to use as
a clamshell or straight phone design. The phone did freeze on me once,
but I turned it off and back on and it has been fine ever since. Navigation
is easy and the phone has loads of features to keep me amused! I think
I'll be keeping this one for a while.
